Plastering and K Render Services

What is Plastering and K Render?

You’ve likely heard the term ‘plastering’ mentioned before, but you may not have heard the term ‘K rendering’. In short, the main difference between plastering and rendering is the area that is worked on.

Plastering – Plastering is typically done on interior surfaces.  Plaster is made up of a combination of sand, cement and water.  Plaster uses a finer sand to achieve a smoother finish.   Specialist re-plastering is an essential part of rising damp treatment.

K-Render – K-Rendering is typically used for exterior surfaces.  As with Plaster, K-Render is made up from sand, cement and water however there is a higher proportion of sand and the sand used is courser in it’s consistency which gives a more textured finish.  K-Render can incorporate additives or polymers which enhance its strength and water resistance.  Our rendering system is specifically designed for use on damp walls.

Application – Modern techniques and skills mean different types of finishes are achievable for both plastering and rendering.  At No. 1 Home, we can provide plastering and K render in Bournemouth and across Dorset.

By protecting your walls both inside and out, you’ll be staving off the inevitable and protecting your home against the ingress of unwanted moisture.

    Which Service Do I Need?

    TYPES OF PLASTERING.

There are many types of plastering that have their own unique uses that our skilled tradespeople can take care of, such as:

    • Artexing – the textured patterns on ceilings give it a more attractive appearance.
    • Coving – the curved edges that make the joint between the top of a wall and the ceiling more attractive.
    • Dry Lining – lining for an interior wall which can be painted or wallpapered onto without plastering beforehand.
    • Flat Ceilings – smooth and unbroken plaster for the ceiling, so it can be decorated and finished.
    • Pebble Dashing / Rough Casting – external render that adds a textured layer using aggregate or bumpy render.
    • Plastering – traditional plastering services for interior walls and ceilings.
    • Rendering – courser composition for external surfaces or walls that are exposed to the elements.
    • Skimming – thin layers of plastering, which are useful for covering up hairline cracks and stopping them from spreading.

Plastering a wall has more benefits than just being able to decorate it more effectively. A wall that has had plaster applied will be pollution free, which means that it will produce less dust than a wall without plaster.
